To gather what cannot be held.

A passing thought.
A dream.
A vision.
A memory without form.
A trace of a body.
Something the wind has almost carried away.

The wool has been a body.
It has known weather, cold and warmth.
It has grown close to the skin of another living being.

When I enter it,
the boundaries between body and material begin to dissolve.

I become wool.
Wool becomes me.

Perhaps this is how we remember.
How we dream.
How the body carries what has been
and what has yet to take form.

Wool carries a body.
I carry the wool.
We carry each other.

Woolgathering is a journey between bodies,
between the visible and the invisible,
between the human and the more-than-human,
between what we believe ourselves to be
and what we have yet to become.

To gather wool.
To gather memories, dreams and visions.
To gather fragments of the world.

Not to hold them still,
but to listen to what they have to tell.

I enter the wool.

And for a moment,
I become something else
without ceasing to be myself.
